My love affair with “Lust for life” began shortly after May 22nd when the video for the timeless masterpiece was released. If by some statistical anomaly you haven’t seen the video, it’s going to be right here:

And it was a revelation for me. It was nothing I was expecting from Lana del Rey, the queen. In fact it took me 5 days to figure out what I think of this album.
If you have been a Lana del Rey fan like me for most of your adolescent life, that you probably expected something dark and edgy and borderline depressing to think about. But Lust for Life hasn’t given me that vibe. She says this album is for her fans and I think she really meant it and pulled it through.
This album is the most stripped-down, highlight on vocals and amazing songwriting album she has done in her career which highlighted songs like 13 Beaches, Change and Get Free.
We were blessed with several more tropical vibe, hippy, melancholic ones in Summer Bummer, Groupie Love and Coachella- Woodstock in my mind. She really reveals her inner flower child on those track, just like her tendency towards world peace in “When the world was at war we just kept dancing”.
And then we have a track with Sean Lennon (my favorite!) where she flirts a little bit with country as well.
My second favorite song on the album is definitely Love. It reminds me most of the Lana I fell in love with “Born to Die”. It’s so breezy and effortless, and it just puts me in such a great mindset.
And the lyrics, oh wow, she has outdone herself this time. The symbolism is so top notch that sometimes I still wonder what songs mean (even though the internet is a magical place where everyone likes to speculate and give their opinion about everything).
I will let you decide what they mean. All I know is this is not what I was expecting, but she still was authentic to herself as an artist and songwriter genius in general so you can still hear it as a Lana del Rey album.
In case you want to buy it for your collection, like me, get it on Amazon or itunes or any of these places where she is available
Until then, enjoy the videos that are available for you on Youtube. ( and follow my blog * cough * * cough* )
