Kesha released a song one day ago that is the most talked about on the internet at the moment. It already has 5 million views and counting. It’s picking up at an amazing pace.
When the scandal with Kesha and Dr Luke happened, I was shook, to say the least. I was heartbroken for her, as I would be for any human being that had to go through such torture. But that is not the point of this post. If anyone doesn’t know what happened, take a look here.
In all honesty, the first time I listened to the song I couldn’t take Kesha that serious. She was always a wild party girl known for party anthems such as Tik Tok and Timber. The first time I listened to the song I was indifferent. It was hard to take her seriously as a serious songwriter since she is known for writing light pop tunes and melodies, catchy songs that you could dance to.
But something made me listen again, and again. The next time I paid more attention to the lyrics and the artistry in the music video itself. It was genius, it was a masterpiece of its own. The fact that she was able to find strength in such a tragedy to speak about her feelings, about how she couldn’t take it anymore; that is inspiring.
In the heat of it all, she says in the chorus :
I hope you’re somewhere prayin’, prayin’ I hope your soul is changin’, changin’ I hope you find your peace Falling on your knees, prayin’
I can only imagine from that that she has forgiven him. I would like to think that she has found her peace despite all the struggles and dark thoughts she had to endure when she was abandoned by everyone.
What can we take from this song? SPEAK UP. Every time you experience such violence and torture, speak up. Let it be known that you will never again let anyone else hurt you.
Do not blame yourself, do not hate the monsters that lurk in the shadows. Instead, find peace in the things you love and focus on that. Don’t let them break you.
When it comes to “revenge” songs this is by far the best written in the business. Take notes on how to write Taylor Swift, take notes.
The most important message that I would like you to take from this song is that I hope your soul is changing, for the better.
If you wish to support Kesha on her way back, buy the song/preorder the album on iTunes. In the meantime watch the video as many times as your heart can take that much emotion.
